These WorkSafe approved HSR Refresher courses are an opportunity for HSRs to revisit aspects of the HSR Initial OHS Training Course and refresh their knowledge and understanding of how to exercise their powers and represent members of their designated work group effectively when raising concerns about work-related stress, or work-related violence or plant.

Who is the course for?

Under section 67 of the Victorian Occupational Health and Safety Act 2004, all elected HRSs and deputy HSRs, after completing an initial course of training, have an entitlement (for each year they hold office) to attend a refresher training course at least once in each year they hold office as health and safety representative. Health and safety reps may, in consultation with their employer, choose the course they wish to attend. Employers must be given at least 14 days’ notice of your intention to attend the course.

The courses are approved by WorkSafe Victoria under Section 67 of the OHS Act and Big B Personal and Workplace Solutions is approved to deliver the courses.

Although developed specifically for health and safety representatives, we also welcome and encourage the attendance of members of Health and Safety Committees, Management, Supervisors or any individual with an interest in health and safety who would also benefit from attending this course.

We believe elected health and safety representatives make a very significant difference in helping to achieve better health and safety outcomes in workplaces, particularly in those workplaces where managers and supervisors are also trained.

This is because health and safety representatives provide employees with a pathway to have their views and concerns about health and safety heard by the employer.
